I am a 48 year old army veteran (I spent 12 years in 5 as a enlisted medic rising to Spec5/e-5 and 7 years as a combat arms officer Armor! with experience as a tank platoon leader, Executive officer, Company Cdr, NBC Defence School, staff work as assistant S-2, 3, and 4 and maintenance officer for battalion, food service officer and the usual range of extra duties assigned to company grade officers in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
I graduated with a degree in history and Militay Science from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo Michigan. I have also taken extensive courses in business and real estate, human resources and various entreuprenuerial fields over the last twenty years.
I spent several years as a leader in Southwest Michigan in various Militia units, then joined the Michigan State Defence Force.
I grew up on a small subsistence farm in SW Michigan and following the death of my father when I was twelve I am my family supported ourselves for 6 years on a 80 acre farm heating with wood we cut in our woods and eating what we grew or off what we could raise and sell of the farm for cash.
I am currently along with other survival oriented associates putting together a coalition of survival groups and preppers we call a Haven in SW Central Michigan and in NW and NE lower Michigan to mutually assist each other and the neighbors in our groups areas of operations and to enhance our security and survival capabilities.
This blog is designed to assist others both here in Michigan and the Other Great Lakes/Old Northwest Territories states but elsewhere prepare and organize to protect themselves, there families, groups and larger communities.

I am located here in SW Michigan and am a twelve year veteran of the army. I am working on forming a coalition of “non aggressive” survivalist groups interested in preparing themselves and their families to survive a TEOTWAWKI situation whether from collapse of the grid or peak oil etc where central government collapses in effect. (This is the Scenario in “Lucifer’s Hammer”, in “One Second After”, and in “Alas Babylon”).
Fom what research I have seen a societal collapse would only take two to 5 weeks following the electrical grid going down for whatever reason. Some of the research FEMA has done indicates a population collapse in such a event that could reach up to or exceed 90%.
The Government as a whole is not prepared for this magnitude of disaster, nor for the most part is it preparing, that leaves it to “self help” As Preppers we are preparing and can do a lot of good by networking now to asssist our neighbors maintain the local resources for survival and post disaster recovery. (As well as protect each other and teach each other the skills we have already learned.
